In today's Wall Street Journal, Andy Kessler presents the strong case for why startups drive economies. He dubs the economics he is discussing with the name of "i-economics." That stands for "investment, innovation and individual incentive". Its opposite is "g-economics" as in "what has the government done for me today?"
As you read Andy's opinion editorial, you'll quickly get the sense that he is talking about entrepreneurs like you. He arges for a government economic policy that allocates capital to people like you instead of to a government that decides to whom it should be given.
The power of startups is indeed awesome. In the same issue of the WSJ, I read how the booming economies in Africa are attracting a rush of hotel businesses to house the rush of business people to Africa. Entrepreneurs are opening fresh enterprises, creating many new jobs there, and the middle class is emerging, investing and spending and adding momentum to African economies that are growing faster than China and India.
G-economics is why Europe struggles to find jobs for young people but i-economics is why Asia and Africa are booming. Europe looks first to government for solutions to unemployment, while Asia and Africa look to businesses first, including new enterprises that create vast numbers of fresh jobs very quickly. It is socialism versus capitalism in clear perspective.
You the entrepreneur thrive on less government and more freedom. So it's your responsibility to first do your startup well thereby setting the example in America (or wherever you live) for how i-economics works, and then stand firm against those who seek to impose a goverment that thinks it should get the capital to allocate instead of you.
BOTTOM LINE: Andy Kessler makes it clear: entreprenurs with capital produce amazing results. In economic terms, they rapidly create jobs and wealth far beyond the size and speed that governments can do it. That is why your work is so important as a startup leader. It helps countries build unfair advantages.
I wish you The Best on your Adventure!
